Chris Allen – Chief Executive

A scientist by education and Senior Vice President for a number of major American and European IT companies during the 1980s and 1990s, Chris setup his own sales and management training company (Clientfocus Ltd) in the late 1990s.  His recognition that demand-side energy management would become a senior executive function and his expertise in management training led him to becoming an early investor and later a director in GAIA. The only member of the team not to be an energy specialist, Chris provides leadership and operational support for the company.

 

Haydn Young – Director of Consulting and Training

Haydn Young

Haydn founded GAIA Active Ltd in 2006.  As an experienced Energy Manager, Haydn leads and delivers energy reduction programmes through employee engagement, capital investments and compliance. Haydn has worked for clients such as Travis Perkins Plc, Samworth Foods, Bostik, Wickes and Alliance Boots. He is an ISO50001 Lead Assessor & ESOS Lead Assessor. As well as working as a consultant in GAIA he also provides Energy Policy Advice to the Energy Club Network and drives Energy Club campaigns to improve energy policy in the UK.

 

Teresa Morton – Property Energy Assessor

As an Engineering and MBA graduate, accredited non-domestic energy assessor and CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant, Teresa has broad skills in and huge experience of demand-side energy products as well as service-related and environmental issues. Working closely with clients in the commercial, retail, industrial and public sectors, Teresa assists clients to understand and reduce their energy consumption and carbon impact.

 

Adam Garbutt – Energy Manager

Adam is a former Energy Manager for 9 years at Wm Morrisons Supermarkets. During his time in Morrisons Adam rose up the ranks from an Energy Administrator to Head of Energy Performance.  Adam was responsible for managing energy consumption across the group portfolio, and reporting on energy and carbon performance for internal and external stakeholders. Adam lead an internal team responsible for: supply management, bill validation, monitoring & targeting, measuring & verification and Energy Performance Contracts. Adam works as a GAIA Energy Manager supporting organisations to manage and reduce energy consumption.

 

Andrew Bolitho – Energy Manager & Policy Advisor

Andrew has over 10 years experience in leading energy management initiatives for Home & Communities Agency, DEFRA and more recently advising on energy policy for the British Retail Consortium. Andy has projects managing installations of CHP, Solar PV and Biomass systems in addition to ISO140001 implementation across estate of 2500 sites. Andy works as a GAIA Energy Manager supporting organisations to manage and reduce energy consumption.

 

Andy Francis – ESOS Assessor, ISO50001 Trainer

Andy Francis

As chartered engineer, CIBSE certified ESOS Lead Assessor and Low Carbon Energy Assessor, Andy has huge experience in managing energy and building services in large multi-site organisations. He also has considerable experience in developing and implementing a sustainability and carbon management strategies. As a former sustainability expert for B&Q, Andy’s areas of expertise include LED lighting, Roof mounted PV and creating a sound financial case for sustainable measures, using whole life cycle cost models. He was also a member of the Government’s expert advisory panel developing the Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).

As a FEI, MIET, MCIBSE, Andy has held many senior marketing, commercial and technical posts in the UK energy industry before becoming MD of a UK\US joint-venture services company. For 10 years he was a member of the property leadership team of Alliance Boots, and in 2006 was Senior Business Strategy Consultant at DEFRA on their Sustainable Energy Policy Division. In 2008 he set up EAV Associates, a consulting company to provide energy and carbon risk management services to private and public organisations and companies.

 

Mervyn Bowden – Executive Workshop Facilitator

A FEI and FIET, Mervyn worked for Marks & Spencer for 28 years, being Head of Energy Management when he left in September 2012 to set up his own company. (Intuitive Energy Solutions Ltd), to provide strategic advice to leading energy services suppliers and end-clients; Director of Empirical Energy Ltd. During his time at M&S, Mervyn was a key architect of the energy aspects of Plan A, the globally famous sustainability programme launched by M & S in 2007. He specialises in training, strategic planning and energy procurement & risk management.

 

Richard Felgate – Energy Management Trainer

Richard is a leading management professional and Chairman of the Energy Managers Association. Much of his experience was gained whilst he was Head of Energy Management at Mitchells & Butlers, one of the largest multi-site retailers in the UK and an industry leader in the pubs & restaurants sector.  Through his business EnStrat(UK) Ltd he works with businesses to help them increase profitability through the implementation of energy reduction strategies and solutions. Within GAIA Richard provides Stage 3 Energy Managers Association (EMA) accredited training.

 

 

Dr John Massey – Executive Workshop Facilitator

John has over 25 years’ commercial experience in industry research, analysis, intelligence and training. With this experience spanning both the Energy and IT sectors, and backed by an outstanding academic background in the natural sciences, John is uniquely qualified to help energy investors, developers and policymakers navigate new opportunities (and threats) created by the transition to cleaner, “smarter” and more connected power systems. He focuses on teaching the interconnected business variables of new power systems: disruptive technology change, policy and competitive environment, market structures, investment drivers and returns.
